Research Abstract |
The main results of this research can be summarized as follows. First, I collected and analyzed governmental records of Japanese tourism policies and some journals of tourism organizations in the 1930-40s. On that basis, I compared the Japanese tourism policies, laws, and organizations with German ones under Hitler’s government. Second, I collected and compiled GHQ/SCAP records, governmental records of the Ministry of Transport, and the diet records etc. in order to analyze the post-war reconstruction of border control, especially inbound tourism policy, in the occupied Japan. Third, I collected and examined GHQ/SCAP and FEC records in relation to the subject of travel abroad by Japanese nationals. As a result, the opposing opinions between U.S., Soviet Union, and Asian-Pacific countries about Japan's early reengagement with the international community were made clear. Part of the research results had been presented at conferences organized by the Japan Sociological Society and Kantoh Sociological Society and were later published in academic journals.
