Outline of Research at the Start

細菌は自身でシグナル物質を作り出し、細胞間でコミュニケーションを行っている。MVによるシグナル伝達は従来のシグナル濃度による伝達と異なる、1つのMVによるデジタルな細胞間コミュニケーションである。一方、環境中において、細菌は単体で存在するのではなく、バイオフィルム（BF）と呼ばれる細胞集団を形成しており、細胞間コミュニケーションがこの細胞集団形成に重要であることが明らかとなりつつある。そこで、BF中におけるMVによるシグナル伝達過程の可視化、BF構造や性質に与える影響を解析することで、細胞間コミュニケーションとBF形成の新たな側面を明らかとする。
