Outline of Research at the Start

ガンマ線バースト(GRB)は宇宙最大の爆発現象である。TeVガンマ線望遠鏡MAGICによりGRBからのTeVガンマ線放射が発見された後、数例のGRBでTeV放射が報告されたが、放射機構の統一的理解には至っていない。また、GRB研究を大きく発展させる上で、GRBで放出される主なエネルギー帯であるMeV領域のガンマ線を観測できる全天MeVガンマ線衛星の早期実現が切望され、マルチメッセンジャー天文学の潮流においてもその必要性が増している。本研究では、MAGICとCTA-LSTを用いてTeVガンマ線放射機構の解明に挑み、次世代MeVガンマ線衛星に向けた検出器開発やGRB感度研究を行う。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

To deepen our understanding of TeV gamma-ray emission mechanisms in gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), we have performed a dedicated analysis on GRB 190829A data observed by MAGIC telescopes. As a result, we obtained a hint of gamma-ray emission from the GRB which is a relatively low-luminosity GRB. A paper summarizing our findings on relatively low-luminosity GRBs is in preparation. We published a paper presenting the performance of an analysis pipeline for joint observations with MAGIC and the Large-Sized Telescope prototype (LST-1) for the Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory. With this method, we fund that the joint observations have the capability to detect dimmer sources compared to MAGIC or LST-1 observations. We have conducted the performance evaluation of newly developed AstroPix sensors, and published its performance paper. We also published a paper reporting the evaluation of XRPIX8.5 as a scatterer for an electron-tracking Compton camera.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

ガンマ線バーストのTeVガンマ線放射は2019年に発見されて以降、統計的に有意な検出は数例が報告されるのみでその全貌は明らかになっておらず、放射の兆候が見られるデータも合わせてその放射機構を議論する必要があり、本研究成果は系統的理解に向けた議論に寄与する可能性を持つ。MAGICとLST-1の同時解析手法を確立したことで、ガンマ線バーストのみならず今後の様々な観測に適用でき、科学成果を最大化できる。AstroPixは低消費電力であるためMeVガンマ線衛星での利用のみならず、コンプトンカメラや加速器実験への応用が期待でき、本研究で得られた性能評価結果は完成版のチップ設計に向けた重要な成果である。
