Outline of Research at the Start |
Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head (ONFH) is an osteonecrotic condition originated from the inadequate blood supply to bone and has a high rate of disability. Until now the molecular aetiology behind ONFH has not been clarified. This study aims to develop a surgical mouse model for ONFH for the first time in the literature to clarify the molecular mechanisms leading to traumatic ONFH; in purpose of developing a regenerative treatment by transplantation of a specialised endothelial cell side population which can be applicable in clinics

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head (ONFH) is an osteonecrotic condition with a high rate of disability, originated from the inadequate blood supply to femoral head and the molecular aetiology behind traumatic ONFH has not been clarified yet. Thus we aimed to develop a mice trauma model to study the traumatic ONFH in detail and with in one year the model was able to be developed and the changes in vascularisation between necrotic bone and healthy bone are started to be observed already.

Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The method in animal experiment has changed.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Until now, we almost developed a mice model for traumatic ONFH and we started to observe the differences in vascular structures in necrotic femoral head and heathy one. From now on the vascularisation process in necrotic bone tissue and healthy bone tissue will be observed as well as the macrophage and neutrophil changes in two different situations. Also a treatment strategy with the help of an EC side population will try to be developed. Meanwhile if there will be a chance we also want to observe the differences between steroid induced ONFH and traumatic ONFH in disease development.
