| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究は、中世の仏教的世界観及びそれを背景とする中世国家の成立について、鎌倉初期の歴史書や歌論書を主な題材として、当時の貴族層が自らを取り巻く現象的・観念的世界の構造をいかに認識し、表現したのか考察するものである。
特に和歌を神代から存在する和語（やまとことば）で詠んできたものとする歌論書が、当該期に頻出したことは「日本」におけることばのありようが振り返られたものと捉え、そのことばの真理性をめぐる言語認識が、いかにその世界の構造に統一性を与えたのか、検討することを目的とする。これにより、日本中世における仏教的世界の構造の把握と、中世国家の成立の因果関係の解明を目指す。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This project examined how the aristocrats of the time recognized and described the structure of the phenomenal and ideological world surrounding them during the period of the establishment of the medieval state. The logic of this understanding was examined through historical and poetic texts. In particular, I examined Jien, who wrote the history book and the poetry anthology in the early medieval period, for his method of recognizing history and historical narrative based on his view of “Dori,” and clarified the correlation between people and the world of Shintoism and Buddhism. He also clarified the correlation between people and the Shinto and Buddhist worlds. He demonstrated that this relationship was reconstructed and penetrated among the aristocracy during the period from the imperial anthology “Senzai Wakashu” to the “Shinkokin Wakashu” through waka poetry theory, a historical document that has not been examined extensively in historical studies.

本研究の学術的意義は、古代末期から中世初期の転換期に「日本」の言語の問題を通じて人と神仏の関係、そして自らを取り巻く現象的・観念的世界の構造をいかに認識し、叙述したのか、明らかにしたことである。それらの認識が勅撰和歌集の編纂過程のなかで貴族層のなかで浸透し、認識され始めたことを論じた。そしてそのことは、この国の歴史認識や言語認識は和歌論を通じて検討されてきたことの証左であり、「日本」における歴史叙述の問題を問う際には、和歌論も含めて検討することが必要であることを指摘した。本視座は中世国家成立期にのみ通じるものではなく、通時的な問題として捉えうることができるものである。
