Outline of Research at the Start

後期第四紀の気候変動の代表的なメカニズムとして,氷期・間氷期変動(ミランコビッチサイクル),ダンスガード・オシュガーサイクル,ハインリッヒイベント,ボンドイベントがある.私たちが復元した温度に,これらがどのように影響を与えたのかについて解析を進める.さらに,気候・ヒト・社会や文化のつながりの枠組みで,「気候・環境」が影響を与える主要な因子には「食糧・生業・経済」,「ヒト」,「人間社会・文化・文明」がある.特に,日本社会が経験した10の革新的な出来事において,その関係を明らかにする.

Outline of Final Research Achievements

We are biologically called as Homo sapiens. The first was born in Africa 200,000 years ago and left there about 60,000 years ago under humid climate. Japanese first ancestor arrived in the Japanese archipelago about 37,500 years ago. Japanese societies experienced 10 innovative events: ① The first immigrant of the Homo sapiens to Japan during the Paleolithic period, ② Invention of the world's oldest stone arrowheads (start of the Jomon period) ③ Human migration in Hokakido at 8.2ka event, ④ Start of Sannai Maruyama society, ⑤ its collapse at 4.2ka event, ⑥ Start of Yayoi period, ⑦ Transition from Yayoi to Kofun period, ⑧ Start of aristocratic society, ⑨ Transition from Imperial court to Feudal society, ⑩ Transition from Feudal to Modern society. These innovative transitions basically occurred under severe cold climates.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では,仮説『社会の大事変は大寒冷期にほぼ対応し,大寒冷期は試練とともに次の発展の機会をもたす遠因として機能した』を検証し,「新大寒冷期による日本社会の進化」説を提案した.筆者らが国際誌に発表した古気候・古環境に関する論文などを土台に人類学,考古学,歴史学,経済学などの知識をとりいれ『気候変動と日本人20万年史』(川幡,2022,岩波書店)として出版した.「湿潤気候が促した出アフリカ」 ,「4200年前の寒冷イベントが記録された日本人の遺伝子」,「大寒冷時に弥生人の初来日を促した商人の誕生」,「大寒冷期が促進する日本社会の進化」などが注目される.
