Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、生体深部において単体の細胞体からの蛍光を観察できる刺入型生体埋植イメージングデバイスの実現を目的とする。
刺入型イメージセンサは、レンズレス構成による小型、軽量かつ低い侵襲性で、刺入断面の明視野あるいは蛍光像を得ることができる。特に他の手法では観察が難しい脳深部における脳機能観察への応用が期待される。
本研究では、導光板によるフロントライト構造と角度選択画素を搭載した特殊イメージセンサの設計と試作を行う。観察対象領域への効率的な励起光照射と、画像処理による仮想的な結像技術により、薄型で低侵襲という特徴を損なうこと無く空間分解能の改善を実現する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

The objectives of this study were to achieve high spatial resolution imaging without using a lens by using an image sensor equipped with angle-selective pixels and image processing, and to efficiently irradiate excitation light onto the observed object for fluorescence observation using a front light structure mounted on the image sensor.
For the angle-selective pixel, we confirmed that the angle-selective performance can be improved by optimizing the structure, and demonstrated that it is possible to recover images from multiple viewpoints with higher precision than that from a single viewpoint. In addition, we demonstrated that the front light structure can be placed on the image sensor to enable fluorescence observation.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究で提案した、角度選択画素構造は、角度分解能は高くないが、比較的単純な構造であり、数十μmのイメージセンサ近傍での空間分解能の低下を補償する目的に適している。この特性は、本研究の対象としている生体埋植イメージングデバイスの空間分解能向上に寄与できると考えられる。
また、フロントライト構造は、微弱な蛍光観察への適用するために高い励起光除去フィルタが必要となるが、我々がこれまでに開発してきたハイブリッドフィルタ構造と組み合わせることで蛍光観察に適用できることが実証され、今後応用が広がるものと期待される。
