Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study examined natural and social impacts from environmental problrems caused by the U.S. military bases abroad. In order to explore the problems and solutions, we conducted the interdisciplenary studies from these aspects:the significance of the U.S. military bases abroad in the present strategies toward the Asia-Pacific region, the environmental problems by the U.S. bases in Korea and the differences of the Status of Forces Agreements between Korea and Japan, natural geographical analysis of red soil erosion from the U.S. base area, and economic impacts to local societies.In addition, we considered possible solutions from the viewpoint of the environmental laws of the U.S..At the end of this project, we published the final report contained our papers and collected reference materials and open to the public through the Academic Repository of University of the Ryukyus Library.
