Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Gordon Matta-Clark intervened into abandoned buildings, cut into and removed walls and floors which had once surrounded inhabitants. Such activities brought unanticipated structures from the usual buildings. They also offered insights into the character of our living environment and the ways they came to be abandoned. Before starting working with buildings, Matta-Clark worked with trees and drew a lot of plants, too. However, the relationship of these early works and the ‘building cuts’ works was obscure. In this research, I propose to see the trees as the models of structures which transform their environment one another. ‘Tree’ can be a clue for him to think of the relationship of buildings and their environments.
