Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The Project recorded Manchu language vocabulary, grammar and stories in San Jia Zi (The Three Houses, Ilan boo in Manchu) Manchu village of Heilongjiang Province. It also clarified the ,morphological and grammatical simplification appeared in Manchu language as the result of its contact with Mongolian and Chinese. That is to say that when Manchu language had contact with Mongolian and other languages, changes of similar mechanism occurred in Manchu language. The project also conducted follow up investigations of the Manchu of language learning in Manchu elementary school in San Jia Zi village which will be beneficial to the inheritance of the language. Manchu language has lost the role of "communication", which is an indication of the process an endangered language usually goes through.
