Outline of Final Research Achievements

This research pursued and extended possible analyses of reflexive binding and their applications. Movement analyses of reflexives, originally proposed by Lebeaux and Chomsky, were reexamined and extended within the minimalist framework in Hasegawa (2000). The mechanism of AGREE was introduced as the minimalist program advanced further, and the mechanism developed into MULTIPLLE AGREE proposed by Hiraiwa (2001). Multiple Agree analyses of reflexives were independently proposed by Hasegawa (2005; 2009) and Chomsky (2005; 2008). This research examined the effectiveness of the proposed hybrid analysis, which was an amalgamation of the movement analysis and the Multiple Agree analysis of reflexives. The research was also extended to possible applications of the analysis in morphology/word formation.
