Outline of Final Research Achievements |
While the production and distribution of wealth were key social issues during the 20th century, the society of the 21st century will be facing the issue of how risk-averting systems should be placed within a region and social hierarchy. In this study, NIMBY thinking has been observed as a deterrent to decision making related to the social acceptance of environmental risks. This study will instead focus on the realities of regional societies that have been forced to confront these issues. On the basis of a discussion conducted on the ingenious local strategies in order to deal with occurring events and the difficulties faced in doing so, this study aims to discover clues for solving problems regarding the “reconstruction of coexistence” between the distribution of environmental risk within the society as a whole and the reconstruction of the safety of regional societies.
