Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Long-distance running is an unpopular form of exercise among children. In an attempt to improve this situation, a practice focusing on the concept of “Kyousou”was carried out with students of three consecutive grades. An attitude questionnaire used in the field of social psychology was administered before and after the instruction in each learning unit. Results show that there was an improvement in attitudes at the elementary school, but a decline in favorable attitudes after completion of the learning unit among sixth-year elementary school students and before the learning unit among first-year junior high school students. The transition to learning with different aims due to switching from endurance running to long-distance running is believed to have produced psychological pressure among the children. This suggests the need for the development of a new curriculum for long-distance running, which has been tentatively created.
