Research Abstract |
I analyzed C.N. Ledoux's architectural and urban projects, especially texts and plates appeared in his book "L'architecture" from the following viewpoints; 'the control of sexuality,' 'the labor and the community' and 'the education and the discipline.' In comparison with Ledoux's works, I referred to some of his contemporaries such as Lequeu's architectural and anatomical drawings, to the articles of "L'encyclopedie," to the thoughts of Sade, Restif, Fourier and other texts and documents of 18th century France. Through this approach, I made a panorama of how the 'bio-power' was exercised in the field of body and space in the age of Ledoux. I clarified Ledoux's notions on space, city, architecture, body and sexuality and their relevance with the precedent and contemporary architects, philosophes and writers. My Ph.D thesis "The Writing of the Utopian City: Claude-Nicolas Ledoux's Architectural Thought," one of the fruits of this research, will be published after the defense.
