Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, I utilized inscriptions as my main sources and developed a comparative historical analysis of East Asian ritual culture. By focusing on epitaphs, land purchase certificates, tomb inscriptions, and objects adorning Buddha relics, this research closely analyzes various types of inscriptions and examines their relations with mourning and funeral rituals. In order to explore more advanced methodologies for inscription research, I have been actively conducting collaborative projects with other researchers to investigate inscription rubbings. I reported my discoveries from these projects by giving presentations and publishing research articles. During the final year, I published my book, “Nihon kodai no soso girei to ritsuryo sei” (Mourning and Funeral Rituals and the lu-ling statutes in Classical Japan), by incorporating the discoveries from my research project.
