Research Abstract |
The 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake (Mw 9.0) that occurred on 11 March 2011 generated a large tsunami that inundated several kilometers inland. In this study, we attempted to reconstruct the mega-tsunami behavior in coastal lowland with sand dune by sedimentary analyses (visual description, grain-size distribution, and magnetic fabric) in Sendai city of Miyagi Prefecture, Rikuzen-takata city of Iwate Prefecture, and Hidaka town of Hokkaido Prefecture. We could read the detailed flow changes of the tsunami using the sedimentary analysis of the tsunami deposits at Sendai and Rikuzen-takata cities. Therefore, it was revealed that reconstruction of tsunami behavior can be performed using the detailed sedimentary analyses of tsunami deposits.
