Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、「他者救済」を歴史学の方法によってよりよく理解し、もって、現代社会がそ
のあり得べき姿を形成していくための土台の提供を目指すものである。そこで、チャリティ
の役割が歴史的にきわめて巨大であったイギリスにおいて、19 世紀初頭から 20 世紀半ばにかけて、①奴隷にされ売買された黒人・白人、②食肉に加工されるために船で運搬された動物、③かつての敵国に属した見も知らぬ子ども、という一見異質な三つの主体が、この順番で、約半世紀おきに相次いで人道主義的な救済の対象として浮上してきたことに着目し、いかなる脈絡・論理によって救済対象の範疇が変容（拡大）していったのかを究明する。
