Outline of Research at the Start

This research will investigate issues on social well-being among older migrant women in rural Japan and South Korea. The study focuses on women from the Philippines, who moved to rural areas in both countries in the 1980s and 1990s, as wives to Japanese and Korean men. Utilizing in-depth interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and secondary data analyses, this study will examine aging from the point of view of migrant women in order to understand issues that migrants face as they age along with the rest of the population in rapidly-aging societies such as Japan and South Korea.
