Outline of Research at the Start

加齢黄斑変性は代表的な失明原因の一つである。中でもアジアで発症が多い滲出型加齢黄斑変性は喫煙が危険因子であり、網膜色素上皮のバリア機能異常がその滲出性変化の一因となっていると考えられる。申請者は、煙草に含まれるアルデヒドであるアクロレインが網膜色素上皮のバリア機能を低下させることを見出した。本研究の目的は、アクロレインによる網膜色素上皮のバリア機能障害について検討をおこない、滲出型加齢黄斑変性における病態関与を明らかにすることである。
