Outline of Research at the Start

骨肉腫は小児・AYA世代の四肢骨に好発する原発性悪性骨腫瘍である。発生頻度が極めて少ない希少がん故に、新規治療法開発が一向に進んでいない。骨肉腫の発症は、間葉系幹細胞が骨芽細胞系統へと骨分化する過程で遺伝子変異が生じ、正常な骨分化経路を逸脱することに起因すると考えられている。そのため骨肉腫細胞に対し骨細胞様への終末分化を誘導することで細胞増殖を停止させ得ることが理論的に可能であると考えられる。本研究において骨肉腫細胞の骨分化を効率的に誘導する責任分子を特定し、骨肉腫に対する「骨分化誘導療法」となり得る可能性を検討する。
