研究代表者は腫瘍微小環境（TME）や癌におけるPD-1発現に対する研究を行ってきた。免役チェックポイント阻害剤（ICI）は急速に普及したが、一部でhyperprogressive disease（HPD）と呼ばれる急速な腫瘍増大がみられる。HPDのメカニズムの詳細は不明である。TMEとHPDの関連においては、腫瘍関連マクロファージ（TAM）が関与することが示唆されており、本研究で腫瘍細胞のシグナル伝達がHPDに特異的なTAMを誘導し、ICIが作用することで腫瘍増殖が促進されるとの仮説をもとに、メカニズムの解明を行い、その作用を阻害することにより、HPDの予防やICI薬剤耐性解除への可能性を検討する。
