Outline of Research at the Start	本研究は、世界史の転換となった宗教改革において議論の対象となった贖宥状が、13世紀にどのような背景・目的・経緯のもとにヨーロッパに広まったのかを明らかにしようとするものである。おもな史料となるのは、枢機卿ペトルス・カポッチ（1200年頃～1259年）が、教皇の外交使節としての活動中に発行した贖宥状である。13世紀半ば、教皇は、神聖ローマ皇帝に対抗するために、新たな王としてホラント伯ウィレムを擁立した。聖俗諸侯のあいだにウィレムの支持を広げ、皇帝家の影響力を弱体化させる任務を担ったのがカポッチであった。本研究は、カポッチの政治的任務とその過程で彼が発行した贖宥状の関連に着目する。
