本研究では、ロボットに涙を流す機能を持たせることで、ロボットが人に共感されたり、人への共感を表現したりすることが出来るかを明らかにする。昨今、ロボットに対するニーズは変化し、人や社会に精神的な豊かさを提供できるロボットが求められている。したがって、本研究の成果は、最新のニーズに対応したロボットの設計にとって重要な情報を提供できる。将来的には、人とロボットのより親密な関係が求められる介護や福祉、メンタルヘルスケアなどの多様な分野での応用が見込まれ、社会問題の解決に役立つと考えられる。
