Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In order to allow pupil/students with various print disabilities (blind, severe low vision, dyslexia) to use e-textbooks (so-called "digital textbooks" in Japan) easily in inclusive educational environment, we have established a standard model of accessible e-textbooks in EPUB3 (DAISY4, "Digital Accessible Information System"), which is an international standard for accessible e-books. Based on it, we have developed a authoring tool to make given STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) contents barrier-free (accessible), which originally include many technical symbols/notations such as math expressions, chemical formulas, figures, diagrams, tables, maps, etc. We have also developed/studied an accessible browser for multilingual STEM contents, an authoring tool for easily-understandable tactile graphics, a new technology to help disabled students with understanding STEM contents and so on.
