Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We developed a nutrition education program for 4,5-year-old children and their parents in cooperation with kindergarten teachers with the aim of early diet and health education. The program was tried twice and evaluated its applicability and effectiveness. We then completed a nutrition education support kit including teaching plan, teaching materials, and reference materials. In promoting the kit, we conducted training for kindergarten teachers and nursery teachers and distributed it to 420 kindergartens and nurseries (70%) in O City. In order to connect kindergartens, nurseries, homes, and communities, we delivered and evaluated a family program of diet and health management for prevention of metabolic syndrome for parents. The program led to improvement of daily eating habits. Promoting early childhood nutrition education involving family can be one of the methods for diet and health promotion in Japan where the declining birthrate and aging of society progress.
