Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The lower limit of mountain permafrost distribution on windward bare ground in the Daisetsu Mountains, Hokkaido, was estimated by the results of air and ground surface temperatures and electrical resistivity measurements. A borehole, deeper than 10m, was dug around the lower limit of permafrost. This site is expected to be a good monitoring site for ground temperature changes. The measurements of ground temperatures in a degrading palsa, peaty permafrost mound, were carried out. The temperature logger which can measure temperatures at many different depths in a small borehole was developed.
