Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Taking up the Scripture of Brahma's Net (Fanwang jing), the most fundamental text of Mahayana precepts in East Asian Buddhism, the following three works were conducted on the basis of a careful selection of earlier manuscript and woodblock print versions of the text: [1] The examination of the lost passages not found in the extant text; [2] Making a critical edition with collation of over twenty manuscript and woodblock print versions; and [3] making a new type of edition which clearly reveals the earliest form and later transformations of the texts, by choosing the six versions to show each epochal phases of historical changes of the text. Currently a monograph of the new type of edition is under preparation.
