Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The aim of this study is to examine the resource disparity and its change among academic libraries at national and public universities in digital age. To reach our goal we got raw data from annual journal “Libraries in Japan” which we can find annual data of each academic library. We analyzed this data focusing on expenses related variables and the number of library staff. Furthermore, in order to clarify the specific situation of the disparity, we had interviews with national and public universities. The important findings revealed by this research are that printed-journal expenses, e-journal expenses, the number of permanent librarians are strongly influenced by the hierarchy of universities. Which means the gap between upper universities and lower ones is getting larger. In both research and education, large universities have abundant library resources, while small universities are in difficulties.
