Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In the eastern cities of the U.S.A. with confortable streetscape, we analyzed the sustainability of inner spaces of row houses and distinctive formal features of their front walls and street surface. The street space formed by these three planes is realized as U-shaped one and has some types by spatial articulation, hierarchy, and scale. On most streets the exterior walls and the sidewalks are strongly connected by stoops, basement openings, front yards, and so on, and form L-shaped space first. Then the various combinations of the L-shaped spaces make up the diversity of streetscapes. It shows the actual conditions of streetscapes different from the modern way of thinking, roads and buildings are independent with each other.
