Outline of Final Research Achievements

roton transport is mediated my membrane proteins involved in photosynthesis, electron transport, substrate transport and so on. Therefore, it is one of the most important processes in the biological system. I performed a high resolution crystallographic analysis of bacteriorhodopsin, which is the most studied proton transporting protein. According to the optimization of conditions for the crystallization and data collection, we succeeded in collecting a high resolution data set without X-ray damages. Respective non-hydrogen atoms are clearly observed on the electron density map. In addition, electron densities for some hydrogen atoms are observed in the analysis.
