Outline of Final Research Achievements |
After administration of botulinum A toxin, patients started mirror biofeedback therapy to treat facial synkinesis which was after effects of the peripheral facial paralysis. I confirmed the cerebral cortex motor area which was activated by closed eyes motion and pouted a mouth in fMRI before and after the treatment. Before treatment, the part activated by both exercise was piled up,but the overlap decreased after treatment, and both parts separated. In addition, it is thought that this therapy shows an effect by cortical reorganaization because curative effect does not have influence at the start time of the treatment of facial synkinesis, though facial synkinesis relieved after the botulinum administration if they do not continue mirror biofeedback therapy, facial synkinesis turn worse again.
