Outline of Final Research Achievements

Investigation was made of what kinds of support received by new midwives at their worksites helped to alleviate "reality shock." Study was made of midwives in their second working year, and results showed a tendency of recovery from reality shock after one year of work. As for effective kinds of worksite support, evaluative support from other nurses who started working at the same time period significantly raised the autonomy of new midwives. It was also made clear that a goal for new midwives is to have experienced 28 cases of delivery assistance by the one-year work time point.
