Outline of Research at the Start

University students in Japan are expected to have a certain proficiency in English, intercultural awareness, be skilled communicators, think critically, and be independent minded about their learning. These expectations are challenging for the average student but becomes an additional burden for SWDs. This study aims to (1) understand current challenges SWDs face and (2) identify any gaps between language education and special needs and (3) design a practical framework to reduce barriers faced in the classroom to make the process of including SWDs in EFL classes a smoother process.
