Outline of Research at the Start

本研究は、近代以降のスコットランドにおける出移民（海外へのスコットランド人の離散）と入移民（スコットランドへの外国人移民の受入）という二つの歴史が、現代のスコットランド独立運動のようなナショナリズムにどのような影響を及ぼしているのかを明らかにし、新たな国民共同体の課題と可能性を検証する。
スコットランドは、19世紀末以来のイギリスからの自治・独立を目指す地域として知られるが、小さな「移民国」でもある。過去にはイギリス帝国内で大量の移民を輩出し、世界中にスコットランド系の人々は3,000万人いるとも言われる。さらに戦後には多くの外国人移民を受け入れ、人種主義と向き合い続けてきた歴史がある。
