Outline of Research at the Start

3世紀ごろに始まる寒冷化にともなって、草原地帯の北方諸民族は玉突き状に大移動あるいは南下し、南に隣接する農耕・牧畜を生業とする地域に侵入した。中国にとっては、彼らの動向が「漢唐之間」(3～6世紀)の中華分断の原因となる一方、社会制度の変容などを生んだ。しかしながら、彼らの故地であったはずの長城線より北の地域の実態は良く分かっていない。
本研究では、モンゴル国に所在する遺跡で発掘調査を実施し、現在空白の多い同地遊牧民の活動を考察するための資料を得る。3～6世紀のポスト匈奴・プレテュルクともいうべき時期の遺跡を調査し、そこで獲得された資料を基に汎ユーラシア的に周辺地域と比較検討してゆく。
