Outline of Research at the Start	人口研究は、人間生活の繁栄や社会の性格と密接に関連することから国際的な関心が近年非常に高まっているが、先史時代においては、方法論の開拓・検討地域の拡充・人口変動要因の解明に大きな課題がある。そこで本研究では、上記の課題を克服し、西日本における縄文時代の人口動態とその変動要因を明らかにすることを目的とする。すなわち、A：人口動態研究において問題となる時間と空間のバイアスを低減する方法論を整備・開拓する。これを用いてB：西日本の中でも資料が豊富な中部瀬戸内地域における縄文時代の人口動態を高精度で明らかにする。さらに、C：生業および獲得資源の実態を検討し、人口動態との関連性を明らかにする。
