Outline of Research at the Start

脂肪酸は、生体のエネルギー源や細胞膜の構成成分として重要である反面、肥満や糖尿病患者で見られる高遊離脂肪酸血症は様々な細胞機能障害を引き起こすことが知られている。腎臓はエネルギー基質である脂肪酸を大量に消費するが、脂肪酸の組成といった質的変化が腎臓病に及ぼす影響は明らかにされていない。本研究は、脂肪酸の組成とその調節酵素であるElovl6に着目し、急性腎障害・慢性腎臓病の疾患モデル動物および臨床検体を用いて、脂肪酸が病態の発症や進展に及ぼす影響を解明することを目的とする。栄養素である脂肪酸の質に着目することで、生活習慣病である腎臓病の新たな予防・治療戦略の構築につなげる。
