Outline of Research at the Start

採卵鶏のオス雛は世界で年間70億羽が殺処分されており、動物福祉と経済の重大な課題となっている。本研究は、鳥類特有の性決定機構のゆるさ（=柔軟性）を活用し、アロマターゼ阻害剤により遺伝的メスを機能的オスに性転換させる。この性転換オスが産生する精子を利用してWW個体（超メス）を作出し、超メスと正常オスの交配によりメスのみを産む系統の確立に挑戦する。「オスを産まない」という革新的発想でオス雛殺処分問題の根本的解決を目指す。
