Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Theosophy had not been a subject of academic research until recently when the importance of the role it played in the modernization of religion, art and politics came to be more widely recognized. In this research project, we succeeded in re-examining the global aspects of this role played by Theosophy, and succeeded in identifying novel areas of inquiry. The members of this project were able to collect precious primary material at home and abroad, and to foster new collaborations with foreign researchers. We held several conferences about Theosophy including the first international conference on such a topic to be organized on Japanese soil. Those meetings were attended by several scholars from around the world and Japan, and have resulted in the establishment of a transnational network of researchers from various disciples, which will surely function as the starting point of the new generation of Theosophical research.
