Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Supporting language development of children who were born and educated in Japan (hereafter call them ‘foreign children’) has become a new issue. In this research, we tried to describe their literacy development through analyzing their essays. Essays on school event and opinion essays, written by foreign and Japanese children were collected. Then analyzed them from the perspectives of output, notation, vocabulary, grammar, structure of the contents, etc. and made a comparison of the result between foreign and Japanese children. The development of the quantity of output and expressing their sociality were similar in both groups. However, slight delays were observed in foreign children in the area of writing special syllables, grammatical competence, cohesion, diversity and appropriateness of the statement, logicality. To support literacy development of foreign children born in Japan, instructions which considered these characteristics is required.
