Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study investigated suitable content for CLIL classes at Japanese universities; which elements of CLIL courses encourage the use of HOTS; how to design a CLIL course to encourage more communication; and whether video-linking leads to the same results as face-to face interaction with overseas students. I worked with a professor in the US. We co-taught classes in English via video link three times per semester. We did outreach work with our university students in elementary schools in both Japan and America. Our work won East Carolina University's Collaborative Teaching Award in 2016. I organized content video links with Poland, Pakistan, and Peru, and with student midwives in Scotland to share best practice. I wrote 6 papers on CLIL; made 8 presentations; gave 2 workshops in Japanese introducing CLIL to high school teachers; and organized two CLIL symposia for university teachers in Japan. While teachers are interested in CLIL, many are nervous about teaching content in English.
