Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The history of export of Arita porcelain started in the middle of 17th century. And it is well known that Chinese ships and Dutch ships exported Arita porcelain from Nagasaki to Asia and Europe in the early modern period. On the other hand, it is not known well that Spanish galleon ships had carried Arita porcelain from Manila to Acapulco. Therefore the major aim of this study was to understand about trade network of Arita porcelain in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2014-2016, I went to Mexico, Cuba, Peru and Colombia and researched on ceramic sherds excavated from there. And I found many pieces of sherds of Arita porcelain in Latin America and analyzed them. Most of them were blue and white dishes with the design of Kraak and chocolate cups. And they include the first archaeological evidences that Arita porcelain had been exported to South America.
