Outline of Final Research Achievements

The conflict between strong corporate culture and innovation is analyzed in the blue LED lawsuit case and in the culture-motivation relationship. In the innovation of photolithography equipment used in the manufacture of semiconductors, the Rayleigh criterion served as a community paradigm. As an explanatory concept, we consider Weber's shell, Penrose's economies of growth, Thompson's technology. A car dealer with a solid individualist sales culture is empirically analyzed how market-oriented team play-based organizational innovation has infiltrated and survived. The future parameter of the survey site Company X was improved by the president visiting to each office and talking with the employees, and the trend was represented by a similar U-shaped curve, with recent hires and long-time employees being high on the future parameter.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

強い企業文化と革新は両立するのか。企業人も研究者も、自由であるほど革新には望ましいと根拠もなく想定していないだろうか。確かに、自動車ディーラーの個人主義的セールス文化のようなものは、ウェーバーの「殻」のように、成功体験をもたらすことで、さらに強固になり、やがてそれにしがみつくことで、革新の足かせとなってしまう。それを打破したのは経営者だった。実際、企業文化は革新の阻害要因というわけではなく、コミュニティのパラダイムはむしろ革新を加速してきた。社長が各事業所に行き、従業員たちと対談するというような簡単なことでも、革新に対する受容度は変化する。強い企業文化も革新も、経営者の果たす役割が大きい。
