Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study has two aims. The first is to build a large database using the Shumon Aratame Cho (SAC) (sect registries) as a historical reference. The second is to use this database to examine the structure of farm households in the late Tokugawa period. For this study, I used the sect registries of fifteen villages (seven in northeast Japan and eight in central Japan). Ultimately, I was unable to complete the database. Therefore, I attempted to examine basic indicators for determining family structure by using the data of a single farming community in northeastern Japan, as it had the most complete database.
