| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Thirteen healthy subjects received 3 kinds of kampo medicine. Tokishyakuyakusan increased fundus circulation. Nineteen healthy subjects received tokisyakuyakusan. The fundus circulation significantly increased fundus circulation from 30 minutes to 60 minutes compared with water drinking alone. Eleven patients of normal tension glaucoma received tokisyakuyakusan added to conventional treatment. Fundus circulation did not significantly change after 6 months administration.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究により、健常人において漢方薬当帰芍薬散の投与が眼底血流を促進することを示した。また、正常眼圧緑内障患者では、一定の割合で当帰芍薬散の投与により体血圧に影響を与えずに、低下した眼底血流が維持されることが示唆された。正常眼圧緑内障は進行性であり、眼底血流は時間経過とともに低下する。正常眼圧緑内障の治療として、眼圧調整、血流改善、神経保護など複数の方向からの治療法が提案されており、本研究は血流の側面からの治療の可能性を提案する結果を示した。
