Outline of Final Research Achievements |
There are many unmarried persons who want to get married in Japan. They think that they don't have any opportunities to meet prospective marriage partners. Community matchmakers found marriage partners for them until the 1950s, therefore many people could meet marriage partners. This system is not popularly used as before, but previous studies and my field research show that the role of community matchmakers is still important. The purpose of this study was to analyze the process and reasons they choose to become community matchmakers and how they match people today. Matchmakers need to make more connections with the result that not only they encourage unmarried persons to get married, but they also have opportunities to interact and socialize with each other.
