Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study evaluates the educational reform policies that have been introduced in the U.S. public education system over the past two decades. More specifically, this research examines (1) school choice programs where students can choose the school to enroll and (2) pay-for-performance programs that provide additional financial incentives for teachers and schools to improve students’ academic achievement. This study found that, in school choice, not only competition but also students composition plays a key role in improving test scores and that, in performance-based bonus programs, those schools who fail to receive bonuses significantly improve their performance in the following year.
