Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The aim of this project was to develop an overall perspective on the modern and contemporary intellectual history of the Ainu people. The project was organised around three axes of consideration: (1) The need to construct a genealogy of modern and contemporary Ainu intellectual history, (2) The significance of Ainu modern and contemporary intellectual history for Japanese intellectual history research, and (3) Presenting Ainu modern and contemporary intellectual history as a challenge for social, historical and philosophical thought on a global scale. During the 2014 academic year preparatory and fundamental information needed for this research was collected and supplemental IT related equipment required for the research was assembled. A research trip was also made in order to study the original manuscripts of writers of specific interest to the study. In 2015, further research material gathering trips were made and the presentation and publication of the results of the research began.
