Outline of Research at the Start

「曲率」は滑らかな空間の曲がり具合を表す量であり, 「距離」は必ずしも滑らかではない空間においても定義される量である. 本研究の中心的課題である「CAT(0)空間へ等長埋め込み可能な距離空間を特徴づけよ」という未解決問題は, 「曲率が非負」ということに相当する条件を距離の言葉のみで捉えることを目指すものと言える. 本研究の目的は, 研究代表者がこれまでに開発してきたこの問題へのアプローチ方法を発展させることにより, この問題の解決および関連する幾何学的現象の解明へ向けた研究を前進させることである.
