Research Abstract |
FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, THE AUTHORS HAVE BEEN DEVELOPING A COMPUTER-BASED "RESPONSIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT ROOM" WHICH IS DESIGNED TO PRESENT HANDICAPPED CHILDREN AND PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN WITH A MEDIA-RICH LEARNING ENVIRONMENT. THEIR WORK IS BASED UPON NEW THEORIES OF COGNITIVE RESPNOSIVE ENVIRONMENTS WHICH HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED AS A RESULT OF RECENT PROGRESS MADE IN RESEARCH ON INFANT EDUCATION AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT. THEIR FIERST ATTEMPT,IRE- <I> (IBARAKI UNIVERSITY RESPONSIVE ENVIRONMENT- <I> ), WAS CENTERED AROUND COMPUTER-CONTROLLED PRESENTATION OF SLIDES.THEIR SECOND EXPERIMENT WITH IRE- <II> INVOLVES COMPUTER-CONTROLLED VIDEO-DISK TECHNOLOGY. IN THEIR LATEST ATTEMPT,IRE- <III> , DISPLAY APPARATUS WITH THE TOUCH-SCREEN WAS DEVELOPED. "SHUKUHAKU GAKUSHUU(LEARNING OF LODGING)" WAS USED AS THE TEACHING MATERIALS IN IRE- <III> . 9 SCENES WHICH PUT IN VIDEO-DISK WERE REACHING THE LODGE,CEREMONY OF BEGINNING IN LODGING,LUNCH,OBSERVATION IN AQUARIUM,BATHING,CANDLE SERVICE,GOING TO BED,GETTING-UP AND GOING BACK TO SCHOOL. AS THE RESULT IN THE EXPERIMENT WITH THIS SYSTEM,THE IMPROVEMENT OF CHILDRENS' BEHAVIORES IN LODGING AND IN CLASS WAS RECOGNIZED. THIS MEANS THAT IT SHOULD BE OF PRACTICAL VALUE IN TEACHING HANDICAPPED CHILDREN.
